A comparison of the physiological responses to heat stress of juvenile and adult starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus)

چکیده

Water temperature is the most important factor in fish farming as changes water cause physiological stress fish. There have been few studies on responses to high temperatures, which vary with aging. This study investigated of juvenile and adult Platichthys stellatus heat stress. Plasma cortisol, glucose, lactate, lysozyme levels, antioxidant enzyme activities, expression shock proteins 70 90 (HSP70 HSP90) P. were determined at temperatures 16, 20, 24, 28, 30°C. As a result, it was confirmed that several plasma parameters significantly higher than under cortisol glucose levels increased 24 28°C. lactate level Comparisons survival showed juveniles better thermal tolerance, resulting cumulative rate. Moreover, relationship between tolerance HSP gene revealed HSP70 HSP90 upregulated 28°C both fish, It judged adult’s activity lower juvenile, so demand for response relatively high, whereas juvenile’s 28°C, indicating stable value parameters. These results indicate greater based differences expression. findings improve our understanding age-related during may help guide management farms.

Respiratory, ventilatory, and cardiovascular responses to experimental anaemia in the starry flounder, Platichthys stellatus.

Unrestrained, quiescent starry flounder maintained approximately normal levels of O2 uptake in the face of severe experimental anaemia. At haematocrits above about 5%, the only major compensation was a reduction in venous O2 tension which lowered venous saturation and thereby kept a constant difference between arterial and venous O2 contents. Below a haematocrit of about 5%, this difference dec...

The First Report of a Megalocytivirus Infection in Farmed Starry Flounder, Platichthys stellatus, in Korea

In 2009, a systemic megalocytivirus infection associated with high mortality was detected for the first time in cultured starry flounder Platichthys stellatus in Korea. Diseased starry flounder had pale bodies and gill coloring and enlarged spleens. Histopathological examinations revealed basophilic enlarged cells in various organs of diseased starry flounder. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) wa...

Morphological Analysis of Blind-Side Hypermelanosis of the Starry Flounder, Platichthys stellatus during Early Development

In Pleuronectiformes, blind-side malpigmentation (hypermelanosis) is common in cultured flatfishes, and is economically important. To understand the mechanism of blind-side hypermelanosis in flatfishes, we examined when the malpigmentation initially occurred, and studied how the symptoms proceeded during early development of the starry flounder, Platichthys stellatus. To assess quantitative pat...

Wild and Hatchery Populations of Korean Starry Flounder (Platichthys stellatus) Compared Using Microsatellite DNA Markers

Starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) is an important sport and food fish found around the margins of the North Pacific. Aquaculture production of this species in Korea has increased because of its commercial value. Microsatellite DNA markers are a useful DNA-based tool for monitoring the genetic variation of starry flounder populations. In this study, 12 polymorphic microsatellite DNA marker...

In Vitro Steroidogenesis on Oocyte Development in the Starry Flounder, Platichthys stellatus

In this study, oocyte steroidogenesis are investigated in relation to oocyte development in the starry flounder, Platichthys stellatus, a marine multiple spawner. Vitellogenic (0.52 and 0.55 mm oocyte diameter) and mature oocytes (0.63, 0.66 and 0.71 mm oocyte diameter) were incubated in vitro in the presence of [(3)H]17α-hydevrepoxyprogesterone ([(3)H]17α-OHP) as a precursor. Steroid metabolit...
